Virginia House Gives Final Approval to Ultrasound Bill
The House of Delegates on Wednesday approved — again — a modified version of a contentious proposal that would require women to get external ultrasounds before abortions.
The vote, 61-35, was largely on party lines and came after yet another debate on what has become one of the most controversial bills of the session.
The Senate voted Tuesday to amend the bill to exclude women who have reported to law enforcement agencies that they are victims of rape and incest. The House approved that change and the bill now heads to the governor for his signature.
Gov. Robert F. McDonnell (R) asked legislators to revise the bill last week following protests on Capitol Square and repeated mocking on national television.
